acondas in the Public Sector – The Future of Mobility
acondas has been working in the public sector for over two years. Our clients include several municipal institutions in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
On October 12, 2017, acondas’ managing director Dr. Andreas Florissen moderated a city-wide dialogue on “The Future of Mobility in Gelsenkirchen”. About 40 representatives of the city government, municipal institutions, chambers and companies accepted the invitation from the Mayor of Gelsenkirchen, Frank Baranowski. The dialogue grew out of recent discussions at the federal and state levels on clean air in German cities.
During the meeting in the council chamber of Gelsenkirchen, various ideas were shared and discussed revolving around three objectives: meeting emission thresholds, avoiding a ban on diesel vehicles and building the foundation for a long-term sustainable mobility concept for the city of Gelsenkirchen.
In addition to various short- and mid-term measures – such as increasing the frequency of a major tram line and implementing intelligent traffic regulation systems – many long-term proposals on how to achieve fundamental change in city mobility were discussed as well. One example is a system based on the “use, don’t own” concept to provide passenger transportation on demand with digital booking and payment options.
Follow-up meetings are planned to flesh out the ideas and measures.
